Five Biggest Moments from Third Brown vs. Warren Senate Debate
Who do you think won the third matchup between Sen. Scott Brown and challenger Elizabeth Warren? Which moments stood out to you the most?
Senator Scott Brown and challenger Elizabeth Warren met for their third debate on Wednesday night in Springfield, this time each appearing more at ease and both with their best performances to date.
Here are the five biggest moments of the hour-long debate moderated by Jim Madigan.
Discrepancies in Higher Education
Brown's biggest moment of the debate was when he cornered Warren over the issue of the rising costs of higher education. Warren, a professor at Harvard University, noted that Brown voted against a bill that sought to keep student loan interests low, because it would have closed a loophole for millionaires.
But Brown came back by saying the reason the costs of higher education are skyrocketing are because of administrative costs, like Warren's salary and benefits at Harvard.
"Professor Warren makes about $350,000 to teach one course," he said. "She got a zero interest loan from Harvard and gets free housing and other perks."
Budget Battle
Warren and Brown differed on the ways they proposed to balance the budget. Warren said the government needed to take a "balanced" approach, which included the need for increased revenue as well as reduced spending. She said she would seek to keep taxes low for 98 percent of Americans by having the top 2 percent pay their "fair share."
Brown said repeatedly he would not raise taxes. On anyone. Instead, he said he would sell off all excess federal property and look for line-item vetoes in the budget.
"I've never voted for a tax increase," he said. "We can’t keep borrowing 42 cents on a dollar to pay our debts."
Middle Class
Another big moment in the debate was when the two candidates were asked about what they could do to help the middle class.
Warren started by saying the middle class has been "hammered" by an "army of lobbyists."
"When you talk about hammering the middle class, I suggest you put down the hammer beacuse it's your regulations and your policities that are hurting U.S. families," Brown said, calling Warren a "hired gun" who earned thousands of dollars for representing large companies in court.
Warren, without missing a beat, said she was glad Brown brought up regulations.
"I went to Washington to fight for a new consumer agency to fight to make sure people didn't get cheated on their mortgages, credit cards and student loans," she said. "And that baby agency has already returned more than half a billion dollars to consumers who have been cheated, and I'll continue to fight for that."
Women's Issues
Warren had her biggest moment of the debate during a question about how each would stand up to protect women's issues. Warren said Brown's record showed that he's had exactly one chance to vote for equal pay for equal work and for health insurance coverage of birth control, and voted against them each time.
"Those are bad votes for women," she said. "The women of Massachusetts need a senator they can count on, not some of the time, but all of the time."
Closing Statements
At the end of the debate, each candidate had a minute to succinctly state the issues most important to them as candidates.
Brown touted his record as the "second most bipartisan senator," by noting he voted with his party just 54 percent of the time.
"We need to work together in a truly bipartisan manner," he said.
Warren said she saw two very different paths for the country.
"Brown and the Republicans want to cut the taxes for those at the top, and we let everybody else pick up the pieces," she said. "Everyone needs to pay their fair share, even millionaries."
Who do you think won the debate? Which moments did you think stood out the most? If you were undecided before the debate, which way are you leaning now? Tell us in the comments.

I care very much about an elected person's integrity and if you cannot speak the truth about your personal traits, then how can you possibly be trusted to represent anyone besides yourself? That is why I am voting for Scott Brown. You might not think it's a big deal Elaine, but Ms. Warren used her heritage (or lack thereof) for the financial benefits she received. She also appears to have quite a lucrative law practice in MA and she isn't even a member of the MA bar. Her deception speaks volumes about her integrity. That is why I am voting for Scott Brown.

The best moment was when Warren stood up for women and pointed out that Brown didn't. That was huge. I thought she clearly won. Her second victory was the comment about returning the money to consumers from the agency.

Well said Deanie. I don't know people say they candidates who say they will stand up for (fill in the blank - women, minorities, gays). I like a candidate that says he will stand up for all people. No need to constantly single out classes. By doing so, you effectively demean that class - as though they need extra protection. Treat us all equally and I'll be very content.

In order to fund their "share the wealth" dystopia- BHO and Liz Warren, if elected, are next turning their attention to the unjustly affluent suburbs. All you well off, leftist Patch readers, hiding from the social problems of the big cities are in for a rude awakening. You need to realize that you "did not build" your bucolic suburb. You are leeches who need to contribute to the big cities that are central to the vision of "social justice". California is already considering a proposition that would establish regional municipal governments, allowing for the big cites to benefit from wealthier tax bases of the surrounding towns. The failure of towns to enter into these regional arrangements will incur punitive tax and regulatory burdens from the state. It will be very interesting to watch the leftist Obama/Warren cliques finally have to deal with the consequences of their ritualistic liberalism.

With their candidate’s tarnished background and reputation, the Democrats are pulling out all of the stops to drum up enough support for Warren to help her unseat Brown in November. At the recent Warren – Brown debate in Springfield, Massachusetts, a Republican tracker began asking questions to the Warren supporters outside. He approached one Warren supporter and asked him if he had attended the earlier debate. In the ensuing conversation, the Warren supporter admitted that had he not attended the debate, the labor union would have fined him $150 and then later adds that the fine would have been $250 for anyone that didn’t show up.

I see the comments above and just shake my head...
1. Go look at Brown's record. Ask yourself, "What has Scott Brown done for Massachsuetts?"
2. Then go back and look at Ted Kennedy's long career an pick 2 years of his record... and match them up.
Fairly simple: Scott Brown's done NOTHING for this state, NOTHING
I don't care who's running against him -- his seat is being wasted because he's NOT voting for Massachusetts majority interest (which is democrat). Its a shame people can't see it this way.

We need career jobs here in this state (all states) and small businesses and large are being squeezed by Obama & his regulations & fines! Obama care will target the manufactures of medical devices here in MA & they to will be forced to close and our equipment made by foreign countries! THAT does NOT help our economy & create jobs...OBAMA & Warren will do Neither!

Warren continues to offer "something of a nothing-burger". She says she's for this group or that group, but says nothing about what she will do about anything. She tries to gather everybody behind her without committing to anyone or anything. She flies the Democratic flag and you know that she will vote the party-line should she be elected.
Brown makes decisions for his votes based on what he feels is best for his constituents, no matter if it is Republican or Democratically sponsored. He is a thinker, independent, and she is not. She will owe her Democratic handlers/sponsors for the rest of her career in politics, and not her constituents. Elect her at your own peril, because she is a professor and "no Jack Kennedy". Legislation is not her forte'.
When the members of the OCCUPY movement riot after the elections (and they will no matter who wins any of the elections), remember who claims their birth and watch how she distances herself from them.

Holy Tornadoes, your regurgitating Scott Brown advertisement fodder.
Go back and look at Warren's track record and what she's accomplished FOR THE PEOPLE of this country. She's NEVER ran for political office... She's actually touched everybody in this country who has credit cards and/or credit card debt. She created the Consumer Protection Agency... tell me, and I'm being 100% serious, you show me ONE THING that Brown's done that matches that accomplishment for the people of this country?

You tell me ONE THING Scott Brown's done for the people of this country, or better yet, show me ONE THING he's done for the people of Massachusetts.
Stop and think for a moment.
Would you rather a politician in the office now, or someone who's dedicated their life to helping people OUT of public office?
I think anybody voting for Scott Brown needs to ask the questions I just asked.
It's about Massachusetts, not about "socialism" -- which is silly as shit.

He's your leader as well.
And nobody ever said, "everybody GETS their fair share".
They've said, "Everybody PAYS their fair share."
The top earners in this country pay between 11 - 14% in taxes. Go check your tax forms, I bet you paid between 25% - 30%...
That conversation needs to happen. People at the top, including companies are not "paying their fair share".
Next time your kid has to pay for a school bus or pay to play a sport, ask yourself why you never had to do that when you were a kid. Then go look at the federal budget that was cut for education distribution to the states. This was cut and GIVEN to the wealthy in this country as a tax cut (i.e. Bush tax cuts) which amounted to $700B in tax revenue LOST over 10 years.
Your simply uninformed.
As far as the Libya embassy issue? The Republican's voted to block $300M in added defense and security. Ever wonder why this is an issue NOW? Makes you wonder why they are so hot to trot on blaming the President and his administration, when they actually cut the security budget. Smart politics, but its not going to work.
And you're 100% right, this President IS dangerous. If you're a terrorist or an enemy of this country.
Under this President, we've killed more terrorists and brought our enemies to justice.

To me, that would be better than 100% Democratic, which is what I believe that you will get from Warren. Maybe, just maybe it is about time that this wasn't a "Democratic state", and became one whose constituents vote people into office and/or out of office based on performance rather than party.

You really should try to expand your knowledge instead of watching MSNBC lies.
Everyone pays the same percentage on capital gains from investments that is what the 14% is about. The lying liberals will not tell you that they rely on your ignorance and hatred for people who earn more than you. Without that they would never get elected.
Also here is a concept you will never understand if I pay 14% on millions of dollars of investment returns I will still pay millions of dollars in taxes. So 14% of 10 million is how much compared to 25% of $100,000. Obama and Liz will never tell you this.
Your lies about not paying fair share is just that Liberal lies that we the smart people are fed up with.

I don't understand how a woman could vote for Scott Brown.
He voted against Equal pay for women...

It wasn't that Scott Brown voted against equal pay for women. That bill was designed by the lying liberals to fail with all the other crap that was loaded into it and Scott has explained that many times. He voted against the waste that was in that bill and so did a lot of democrats. If you can count it could have passed easily because the democrats have the majority in the senate.
It was a roll call vote only intended to be political and used for people who don't care for the facts to believe that republicans hate women.

Apparently Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren raised $12.1 million for her campaign in the 3rd quarter of 2012, which ended September 30. The total fund she raised amounted to $36 million. However, apparently 40%, roughly $16 million, came from online donations from two websites that do not have industry standard protections and are vulnerable to fraud and illegal foreign national donations.
