Governor's Council Debate Scheduled for Wednesday

Democratic candidates for Governor's Council will head to the Morse Institute Library in Natick on Wednesday.

The Morse Institute Library and the Natick Democratic Town Committee will host a debate on Wednesday between Democratic candidates for the Governor's Council in the second district.

The candidates – Brian Clinton, Robert JubinvillePatrick McCabe, and Bart Timilty – will debate at a 7 p.m. event that is open to all.

The 8-person Governor's Council is the oldest elected body in Massachusetts, predating its statehood. The primary responsibility of the council is to consider the Governor's judicial nominees.

“We are proud to host this important debate,” Natick Democratic Town Committee chair Dylan Hayre said in a press release.  “Voters should make an informed vote at the primary on September 6 and at the general election on November 6.”

The winner of the Democratic nomination will face Republican candidate Earl Sholley in November.

Rick Holmes, opinion page editor of the MetroWest Daily News, will moderate the debate.

I saw this debate live. It was pretty good, I must say. All four candidates seemed relatively prepared and informed of the major issues. I must say, however, that I had higher expectations for the younger Timilty, who was just not up to par with the others.
