We had to sell the car. That was the only way to stop Pops from driving. He is mad as wet hen too...........

I believe it all depends on the person. Some people can probably drive in their 80,s while others may have to give it up earlier. It should be a case by case basis.Nanakate

It's not about age, but ability.

What about teenagers? Do you think they should be able to drive? And, if so, at what age?

Then at what age do we test the ability on a yearly basis?

I agree with Michael. My elderly mom moved in with us 4 years ago. She would drive to Cobbs Corner and back and go to the library. But, she would go over the yellow line and not even realize it. I took her keys, sold the car and she's still talking about it to all the relatives.

Teens can drive at 14 in rual areas of the country................in the suburbia of CC, should have vehicles that jam cell phones, limit the volume of the mega bass stereo. 17 is a good number.

I have a second home in Barbados, at 70 years old you must get a physical each year in order for your 1 year license to be renewed. This is also for visitors.
They are very age conscious, my insurance increased 30% when I turned 60. I think they could wait to do it at 80, but its what works for them.

The physical seems like a great idea, paying 30 percent more, does not appeal to me!

Doctors will rubber stamp it. Need to develop a program that tests the reaction, and cognitive skills realated to driving and yearly. MY FIL had a license based on doctors, when he should never have been driving........

As a 72-year old driver, I strongly support testing of anyone over 65. Older people are taking the same risks as the rest of the population if any person hits the road without the necessary sensory and cognitive tools.

Don't waste time and money with a doctor's physical. Mandatory Driver's Tests and Eye Tests are enough to get Granny off Route 6.
