POLL: Obama-Romney Presidential Debate: Who Won?

The town hall-style debate gave voice to questions from uncommitted voters. Who handled the issues best?

President Barack Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney were in Long Island, N.Y. Tuesday night, answering questions Tuesday night from voters who said they were still undecided while also managing to go at each other.

The questions covered topics that included energy costs, unemployment, immigration, tax codes and more.

Wednesday morning, Patch will have flash survey results from Massachusetts political activists and leaders, both Republican and Democratic.

But right now, what about you: what do you think? Who would you say 'won' this second presidential debate? Tell us in the comments sections below.

President Obama won the debate tonight. He was prepared and assertive and addressed all issues Romney brought up.I blame Bush for all the mess he inherited. I think Romney has a good head for business, but worry about any other abilities he can bring to the office.

I think they both debated well. I believe Obama knows what he is talking about and Romney has pipe dreams. They both want to make a better situation for our economy. I do not have faith that Romney could pull it off. I think Obama came shown as a winner.

Sorry folks.Obama and Biden both yelled, and acted like spoiled children.Romney remained calm and very statesmanlike. Obama lied about what happened in Libia, because he was caught. He was too busy using T.V to say nothing terrorist really happened, then to act as our President and call the tragedy for what it was..My trust in him is completely gone.He hasn't done anything but constantly blame Bush..He never had experience in any real world scenerio and all he does is apologize for us..His close friends are all Anti US,Israel.. He has a right to his beliefs but he worries me that he is more comfortable in his Moslem socialist associations than he is being the Head of the most Democratic, wonderful place to live on the planet..If Obama doesn't feel proud of the country he leads,he should pack his bag and return to Chicago, and meet up with his close friend, role model, and Hate Monger The Reverand Wright. No one has a close friend/advisor/teacher/family confident for so long and doesn't know his background and philosophy..Rev. Wright espews HATE..

It is just amazing how Obama can just lie when the facts are there to disprove what he says and it was shameful that Candy Cowardly even spewed lies for Obama. The worst part is those people who believe Obama and believe he will fix the economy. He hasn't done jack for almost 4 years now except ensure his cronies and family live well off of taxpayer money.

Ouie -
There you go again, spreading incorrect statements again. First, a quote from the Rose Garden speech.
"No acts of terror will ever shake the resolve of this great nation, alter that character or eclipse the light of the values that we stand for."

Now, if you really mean what you comments state, please let us know what C. Crowley (correct spelling) lied about. Got an example or are you hot air. Also, please expand on your statement "his cronies and family live well of of taxpayer money." You have a way of writing that all Democrats lie, but never back up your statement. How about a few facts, or don't you believe in them.

I am still waiting for Biden and Obama to talk about their record, their ideas on how to work with Congress and their plan for the working classes future. When is Obama going to take some responsibility and man up to his mistakes and not run away from the record. Demeaning Romney is not going to help the American working family reach their goals and aspirations and live the American Dream.

Working with Congress would require an effort on the part of Congress to actually do something. I'm not a fan of any of them, on either side, and as far as I'm concerned the only thing any of them really care about is keeping their cushy government jobs.
That said, you can hardly blame the President for not getting anywhere with Congress when you have Republican leadership admitting that their main goal is to keep him from getting re-elected. Just recently they blocked a bill that was loaded with stuff that Republicans wanted in there (I forget, it was about the budget I think, was on the news a lot) just so Obama wouldn't be able to run on it. Sure, that makes sense politically, but blocking bills to balance the budget then saying the president isn't balancing the budget is just BS.

Everyone, on both sides, needs to grow the Hell up and stop acting like 3 year olds. Quite frankly, I'm sick of all of this behavior from everyone in the government and out. Try this: "I disagree with the President's economic policies. I believe our problems would be better solved by _______ and here is why."

I watched the debate and can't fathom why no one has asked Romeny how he made the budget balanced in MASS, is it because he'd have to say, that he did not raise taxes, but raised fees on everything, cut education spending, and funding for police and firefighters? If your a serious voter google Mitt Romeny Governor and read about his past record then you'll realize he is a not a man who should run this country. Period

Deanie, no need to worry about Obama taking dreams away from kids, our own school board is rationing them with a cap system. As for Obama's record, look at was he has done DESPITE an opposition that was quoted as saying, "Our job is to make sure this is a one term president." Picture yourself as a Floor Manager at a local distribution facility, over half your employees, (that you cannot fire), are quoted as saying, "Let's get our boss fired" How long would you last?

Live debates are a very interesting thing. You can learn a lot about a person, not just by what they say, but how they are saying it. If you analyze the persons posturing and facial expressions, You can learn a lot about who the person is or is not. In observing Obama and Biden, you will notice a significant amount of eye movements and blinking. Downward eye movements and exaggerated blinking indicates a person who is trying to cover up the truth or quickly come up with a rationale or answer that will persuade someone to believe them. There was also a significant amount of overly dramatic facial expressions by both Biden and Obama. This is typically a way that someone tries to draw attention away from something that someone had just said to reduce its significance. Ryan and Romney just look straight ahead with confidence.

We all lost in this debate because Ron Paul and Gary Johnson weren't there. Nobody talks about QE3 and unlimited money printing, which devalue the dollar by the day. Nobody talks about dismantling the military industrial complex, pulling out of our "global policeman" status, or the human tragedy that is American adventurism in the mideast/southern Asia. Go ahead and rack up the debt for the young, that seems to be both sides motto. Mitt Romney proved he was a fool when he ignorantly declared Jerusalem as the future capitol of Israel (a commitment that requires billions of american dollars, constant terror for the foreseeable future in Israel, and a payment of blood from American soldiers who will have to defend this misguided policy). Obama proved he was a fool when he had a troop surge in Afghanistan. They say foreign policy is not an issue for debate, but in fact it is the only issue that should be debated as the economic crisis is global, and these wars are putting us into an unprecedented level of debt. Rand Paul is the only one in the senate with the cajones to say this. Enjoy your secret muslim rhetoric while it lasts, because no matter who wins America will be a poorer place in 4 years.

Obama may have slightly won the debate but I wonder, how many CEO's could stand up and say to their shareholder "yeah, but....the company was in bad financial shape when I took it over FOUR years ago." They would have been fired long before four years. Yes it was crap when he took it over, but he took it over promsing to fix it and he has not. So if it would never stand in business why are so many Americans perfectly comfortable ignoring the reality that Obama has not improved the economy. Period. An aggregate loss of 500-600k jobs is a loss! Period. Doesn't matter that 5 million jobs more of which were lower skill, lower paying were gained when 5.5 million jobs were lost, more of which were higher skill, higher paying. More jobs have been lost over the past 4 years than gained. But hey, let's give him four more years anyway.

These are hardly the same. The way CEOs generally fix a company's finances are through mergers, lay-offs, outsourcing and, sometimes, taking the company in a whole new direction. So, unless you think we should sell of part of the country to Canada, tell everyone who lives in the Great Plains they'll have to leave, send Texas to India and have the entire country shift it's focus to be the worlds supplier of knitted oven-mits, I don't see how you can make the comparison.

On the other hand, if you want to fire President Obama the way regular CEOs get fired, before he's let go he'll need to be made president of Canada and given South Carolina as part of his exit package.

Deanie,
I just went to Mitt Romney's website to look up his 5 point plan. I like how the first page of his website is the donations page.
So, the introduction to his 5-point plan isn't a plan, it's just ideas. I have to have more detail than that in my development profile just to get a good performance review every year. I can't just say what I plan to do, I have to discuss specifically how I plan to do it. I refuse to let a presidential candidate off easier than I get off.
Now, that's the introduction. I clicked on the link for the Full Plan and got a bunch of blank pages http://www.mittromney.com/JobsPlan. That could be a browser issue, but I doubt it. Anyone else see anything there? I'm pretty sure my original comment stands.

If investing in a company that didn't produce a profit and then went bankrupt makes Obama unqualified to be president, then you can't support Mitt Romney either. He was a venture capitalist, a business that, by it's very nature, is about taking risks on investments that don't always pay off.

First of all, people who are upset with another's comments here, on this forum should proof read and spall check their comments! ;-)
My two cents about the debate leads up to my comment on where are we now! We need a businessman who has worked all sectors in politics and the private sector, not a lawyer. I know the president just issued a sudden cutoff of unemployment compensation.. Tis is a snippet from an email I received from a friend of mine who lives in, Florida. "I have a friend that runs one of the offices in Illinois and I called them. She told me that my benefits were exhausted....and that the Obama administration cut thousands of people off 27 weeks early, without warning...... early because the unemployment rate dropped below 9%......as this was agreed upon between the feds and the states. Ok.....the only problem with that is.....the unemployment rate only counts those that are still collecting unemployment, not those that have exhausted their benefits and are still looking for a job or living with relatives and working for minimum wage and have lost their homes and everthing else. False unemployment figures that have been manipulated by the administration in an election year is all it equates to and they think WE DON'T GET IT!"
Nuff said, for now...

"unemployment rate dropped below 9%......as this was agreed upon between the feds and the states." so...hardly "without warning". Also, that is ALWAYS how the unemployment rates have been calculated. It was like that when George Bush was president (I spent some time unemployed then) and when Clinton was president before him. I agree it's a stupid way to calculate it, but it's hardly something Obama invented for the election year.

It's easy to blame Obama for that, or you can read an old report and find out that insurance rates have been going up for years and so has the cost to employees.

"According to recent research, the principal reason for decreasing enrollment during the period 1987-2000 was that the cost to employees had risen substantially.9 An earlier analysis of enrollment trends in the period 1987-96 suggested that decreasing enrollments have resulted from a variety of factors, including increasing costs of insurance, rising employee share of health insurance premium cost, expansions in Medicaid, declining real incomes, and increased price-consciousness among workers.6"

That's from a report in 2004. I'm pretty sure Obama wasn't president in 2004. http://www.ahrq.gov/research/empspria/empspria.htm

Sorry, Mel. Your company isn't sticking you with a bigger bill because of Obama, they're using Obama as an excuse to be jerks.

I assume you mean George Bush, but I wasn't blaming him, I'm blaming all of them. The whole thing is out of control and has been for years and years. Our government, our ENTIRE government, should be doing something about it. I agree that Obama hasn't fixed it but since we have the sort of republic we have and not, say, a monarchy, he can't just tell them to lower costs or write up his own law that everyone has to follow. The president, any president, can't do anything if the congress wont work with him. Ignoring comments from republican leadership that their only job is to make sure Obama only has one term, the whole idea of government regulations that would bring down the cost of healthcare flies in the face of the republican view of smaller government.
The republican plan for lowering health care costs has three parts:
1. Stop making the owners of private hospitals and insurance companies pay taxes.
2. Something magic happens (probably involving unicorns, but no rainbows 'cause rainbows are gay).
3. Cheaper healthcare.

I don't care if you like Obama, I don't care if you agree with me, I care about people believing things that are wrong. Matt..Romney care is NOT Obamacare/Social Medicine! Have you read some of it...I HAVE! There are atleast 47 taxes (so far) in the bill that have NOTHING to do with health care and there definately IS rationing! As of NOW anyone over 70 will be considered a UNIT by the government whi is on Medicare! If they return to the hospital within 30 days of any procedure the hospital will be FINED! Their goal is to tax Private Ins. so much that eventually they will be forced to close...leaving people with nothing but GOV RUN MEDICAL! Then they control who, what, when & how much treatment you receive! I am in the medical field & this is a FACT!! Do you think it's OK that according to Obama if an aborted baby survives that they are allowed to terminate it AGAIN! And yes, these rediculous Liberal laws in this bill are outragous and deadly! The point of fining the hospital is to stop them from kicking old people and poor people on Medicare and Medicaid out before they are better. See, the deal with Medicare and Medicaid is that they pay a certain ammount and the hospital has to eat the rest. It works this way with private insurance too, but the cutoff is higher usually. Hospitals like to kick patients to the curb once they don't get paid anymore then these people end up coming back or going to the ER or, you know, dying.

"Do you think it's OK that according to Obama if an aborted baby survives that they are allowed to terminate it AGAIN! "

This kind of destruction and disregard for your fellow citizens will create karma that follows one. Profits at the price of people is money that will haunt those profiting in the short term far longer than one can possibly imagine. A global economy is a myth. People live in real places, and we are bankrupting our own real country where we really do live. This election vote for someone and something you believe in, and who believes in you as an American citizen. Wish China well, but champion yourself and your own people first. Anything else will fail you, your fellow Americans, your country, and ultimately, your world. Stand for something worth living for. Vote Libertarian for one election. Gary Johnson, Libertarian candidate for President, wants to change tax laws so that American business has an incentive to remain and return to the USA. Sick of war. It should be over, long over. Humanity fails itself over and over and over. Look up, John. Expect more from yourself and leaders. And, btw we're living in a dark age in terms of energy and new technologies. Vote Libertarian for one election.

I totally agree with you. So many people do not know what is really behind the scenes! Half the kids today don't even know who Joe Biden is let along the real issues facing this nation!! GO R&R! We still have a chance to save this country for ourselves & our kids! Remember, the Constitution says WE THE PEOPLE...NOT We the Government!!

A deal with a Iran really lol. I also read on line that Darth Vader put this deal together. And it was signed on a Star Destroyer so no one would find out. Deanie you really are funny. I think you could have a future as a stand up comedian.
