TELL US: Death of the Ding-Dong, Twinkie, Wonder Bread: End of an Era?

Reports are that Hostess is starting to close down after a labor dispute. End of a beloved era, or good riddance to junk food heaven?

Twinkies. Hostess Cupcakes. Wonder Bread. Ding-dongs.

They could be gone forever, with reports that Hostess Brands, Inc., said Friday that it will sell off or close down its 82-year old business. Done in, says the CEO, by labor union action.

Hostess filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in January.

The company has been challenged by not only by snarly labor relations, and a national strike by its second-largest labor union, but also, posits the Wall Street Journal, by consumers switching to healthier foods and high ingredient costs.

But the Journal says that Hostess has threatened liquidation before, and not followed through.

What do you think about this end to a junk-food kingdom? Will you buy Ding-dongs and Twinkies just for old times' sake? Stock up on them for the future? Watch the beginning of the move 'Wall-E' for the Twinkie-and-cockroach scene one more time? Is it the end of a beloved era? Or is it 'good riddance,' that the world would be better off without so much junk food? Or do you think someone else will buy them up, and we'll have an unending supply of Twinkies? Tell us what you think in the comments section below.

My mother never brought any of this stuff into the house. I managed to escape the wonders of Wonder Bread!

LOL. It just may up the average American life span a point or two with the demise of the Hostess. With two kids 19 and 17, I don't think either one has ever had any of this Hostess crap.
Then again my oldest has had only one very tiny cavity in a baby tooth that our dentist covered with sealant as it was going to fall out anyway and my youngest has never had a cavity. I haven't had a cavity in 40 to 50 years myself. It's probably been that long since ate any of that junk.

I say, Great News !!! I never bought such junk for my children and my mother never bought it for us. We make our own cookies and always have. That way we know what is in them. As for Wonder Bread, its a wonder it ever sold, especially to schools as it has no good things about it ! Now, lets see what else we can do away with...................

I think that these types of "foods", or so they are called have been a big reason for some many health problems in this country. Would anyone be reporting that carrots or apples will never be sold again and be concerned about it? Well, they might be but Twinkies were looked at with such awe at one point in time. It was a staple for so many children and adults but was it really great food? I think not!

Haven't eaten Twinkies in years, but will still miss them cause they were part of my childhood.
