TELL US: Is It OK to Hand Out Sex Toys on Public Property?

City officials deny Trojan's request to hand out vibrators on City Hall Plaza, citing that the venue is too family oriented. Instead the sex toys will be given away today at the Boston Center for the Arts.

Trojan, the brand name associated with condoms, will be handing out sex toys on Monday, Dec. 3, from noon to 4 pm at the Boston Center for the Arts in South Boston.

But not without controversy.

Originally Trojan wanted to hand out sex toy products at Boston's City Hall Plaza, but officials quickly banned that idea, saying that City Hall Plaza is a family oriented area and it wouldn’t be appropriate.

The Boston Globe reports that Trojan found a new venue in South Boston: the Cyclorama at the Boston Center for the Arts, and it will give out samples of two products from its pleasure cart while supplies last on Monday, Dec. 3, between noon and 4 p.m.

Both Trojan and the BCA say that there is nothing wrong with the event as it will be inside in a private building, and the promoters will be checking IDs at door.

What do you think? Do you think an event like this is OK to promote and put on publicly? Or should there be some sort of guidelines that prevent an event like this to take place in the public eye? Tell us what you think in the comments section.

I saw a clip of this on the news. The item in question appeared to be in a somewhat small, descrete box. The clip did not show how this give away was being advertised (signs, pictures, etc). IF there was no overtly sexual pictures or words on the signs or other advertising and IF children were not permitted in the general area, I don't see an issue.

Also, if the item is what I think it was, I don't think it falls into a "toy" category per se. For over a year It has been advertised, in good taste, on the TV late evening and in the early AM hours. It is sold in some popular stores, right on the shelves, not hidden behind the counter. The packaging is such that unless you pick it up and read the "fine print" you don't really know exactly what it is; no sexual pictures or wording on the front on the box.

Sex is a normal, natural part of being an adult human being. What adults do in the privacy of their homes is no one's business. If the marketing of items is done in good taste and aimed towards adults, people really need to lighten up a bit.

ABSOLUTELY NOT! Where are the Morals of people! This is disgusting & incouraging sex with anyone and saying it's OK! WRONG! I raided my kids to say "NO" and that's the way it should be...PERIOD! You young kids are in for a rude awakening as you get older! STD...unwanted pregnancy (but that's ok too..just abort..Obama said it's OK) and don't think just because you have PROTECTION that it won't happen...IT WILL! Shame on these left wing radicals who promote this crap!!

Deanie,

Geez, get a grip. We're talking about a marketing tool for an adult product. Did you even bother to find out what said item is (HINT: it's not condoms, which all high schoolers are familiar with)? This item DOES NOT promote sexual promiscuity.

What's with your "you young kids...." rant? I'm retired and tend to be a conversative, not some deranged wack-o. I'm also mature enough to recognize that sex is a normal, natural part of being a human being. I agree children/teens should be taught limits, responsibility, impulse control and consequences of sex before their mental maturity is developed enough to make an informed decision.

However, what adults choose to do (or buy) is hardly anyone's business.

Deanie no one is making you get one so relax. Saying no does't always work . If a kid wants to have sex he or she will. That's why its important to teach kids about safe sex. Also no one that I know of from the DNC is handing these things out so I really don't how you came up with that one.

Liberals, isn't Bob Kostas being raked for similar comments? If you agree with him, then pay attention to your thoughts on this issue.

Andrue . Bob Costas not Kostas was talking about gun control during half time of Sunday nights football game. Not about sex.

Is any topic or internet forum immune to Conservative Rage Syndrome? How does a dopey Trojan promotion segway into Bob Costas. Get a life.

Well, in a small town on the Cape, there are people on Main street handing out pictures of our President with a Hitler moustache painted on. So, I cannot really imagine a sex toy in a discreet box being a problem
