Tell Us: Is America Safer Since the September 11 Attacks?

Today we remember those who died in the September 11 attacks and their families. In the past 11 years much has changed, but are we any safer?
The attacks served as the starting point for the War on Terror which sent millions of men and women into battle, drastic changes in security, economic affects, cultural and foreign policy changes. The day also marked the start of a manhunt, the arrests of several al-Quaeda members, and eventual capture of Osama bin Laden.
Today, we reflect on what happened on that horrific morning and all that has happened since.

Safer? Nope. Not a whit. But we've sure got a lot fewer liberties.

Are we safer than what? Safer than people in the Middle East, or China, or in impoverished countries, or in countries without the rule of law, or even in Europe? I would say, for sure, as we are protected, still, by those two wide oceans. Are we safer than we were before 9/11? Certainly 9/11 was a wake-up call, but there had been attacks on US interests many times previously. That one, like Pearl Harbor, happened as a result of particular historical circumstances and served to tragically underline threats that were already existing.
So there is an existential threat hovering out there which causes some degree of anxiety and it's likely to remain out there for a long, long time. Our military and intelligence agencies do what they can do to protect us in the short run, but to get to a place in which there are no disgruntled people in the world willing to risk their own lives to avenge themselves on their perceived enemy (the US), is a much more difficult task which probably doesn't have much to do with our military power.

Safer...ARE YOU KIDDING ME! THOUSANDS OF HOME GROWN TERRORISTS, OBAMA OPENS THE BORDERS FOR POLITICAL GAIN & GOD KNOWS HOW MANY TERRORISTS WALKED IN! Now we have drones over head & don't tell me they are looking for terrorists! Big Brother & our freedoms being destroyed! Now more un-rest and murder in the middle-east and on 9/11 (no coincidence) and the Gov. apoligizes! NOPE..I don't feel safer...and with the economy going in the tank...we need a strong leader..time to dismiss Obummer!!

Deanie, Rush Limbaugh may be filling your head with nonsense, but you seem to be panicking over nothing. Where are you seeing "thousands of home grown terrorists"? Pardon me, but no one I know has seen "drones over head". Why don't you look at other news sources before you come up with such false assertions like "Obama opens the borders for political gain". That is so ridiculous, it's laughable. Do you really think that the current unrest in the Middle East is due to President Obama? If you think that then your opinion of the power of the Presidency is far greater than reality. And if Mr. Romney comes in, what will he do, wave a magic wand and all those downtrodden people will suddenly be happy?

Nope.....there's still a HUGE hole at the airports. All we have to show is our boarding pass to get on the plane at the gate. I'm waiting for a terrorist to mug someone, take their boarding pass and VOILA....have a good trip!!!

Why would they do that? You still have to show a picture ID to get through security in the first place. Why would a terrorist buy a plane ticket, go through security then steal someone else's ticket? Paranoid delusions should either be plausible or entertaining. Try again please.
