Happy Birthday, Author! at Milton Public Library

5 Things: A run-down of events and other useful information for your life in Milton on Aug. 9, 2013.

1. Milton Public Library hosts "Happy Birthday, Author!" from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Keys Community Room.

"Get out your party hats! Each month, the Children's Room invites young friends to join us for a party where we celebrate the birthday of a children's author!
In August, we will be celebrating P.L. Travers by showing the 1964 movie of her family favorite Mary Poppins (rated G; runtime 139 minutes). Kids 6 and under should be accompanied by a parent/caregiver.

(Note: a small snack is served at this program)"

2. The library also hosts the Friends Book Shop from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

3. Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before noon, then showers and thunderstorms likely after noon, according to the National Weather Service.

5. On this day in 1945, approximately 39,000 people died when the United Stated dropped an atomic bomb on Nagasaki, Japan. From an article in the New York Times: "The second use of the new and terrifying secret weapon which wiped out more than 60 percent of the city of Hiroshima and, according to the Japanese radio, killed nearly every resident of that town, occurred at noon today, Japanese time."
