Registration is open for the 26th season of Summer Arts at Derby 2014 at Derby Academy in Hingham. Summer Arts offers multi-arts programming for children, ages 3 to 15 and is taught by professional artist instructors. Summer Arts cherishes each child’s creativity and offers a rich, in depth experience. The dates of the five-week program are June 30 through August 1st. However it is possible to attend for less than five weeks. Summer Arts Jr. is a half-day program for ages six and seven, and Summer Arts Kids is designed for ages three to five.
At Summer Arts campers create their own schedules by choosing from over 100 courses in Visual Arts, Drama, Music, Dance, Photography, Writing, Sports, Gymnastics, and Video. A student newspaper is produced daily, and there are several full scale productions and a variety of sports options during the day. A healthy lunch and all materials are provided. Every day after lunch there is a performance in the theatre, which is open to the public. The show is followed by a free-choice period, which allows the campers to try new things. The program culminates with a full-day Arts Festival on August 1st. On this day students share their talents through performances of theatre, music, dance, and gymnastics. There are nine galleries of art, including exhibits of pottery, painting, quilting and sewing, mosaics, sculpture and photography. Original animation and video projects are also shown.
Summer Arts Jr. and Summer Arts Kids are half-day programs that provide a multi-arts experience for our youngest campers. The program activities are designed to stimulate each child’s imagination and to build creative confidence. The children have the opportunity to begin exploring their artistic talents in a supportive and exciting atmosphere.
