The Keighton Fund at Curry College Presents The Story of Civil War America in Song

Milton, MA-

            The Keighton Fund will proudly present The Story of Civil War America in Song on Monday, April 14 at the Milton Campus of Curry College, 1071 Blue Hill Avenue. The event starts at 7:00 p.m. and will be held in the Parents’ Lounge of the Hafer Academic Building. A reception will follow.

Soprano Beth Canterbury and Pianist Matthew Larson, Ph.D., will perform a variety of works tracing the arc of the Civil War, from secession to surrender. The works include songs detailing the Union and Confederate perspectives as well as popular African-American spirituals. This musical celebration is free and open to the public, however, seating is limited.  For more information, please visit www.curry.edu.

The Keighton Fund was established in 1990 by the Pines Bridge Foundation and named for Dr. Robert L. Keighton, an active and dedicated Professor of Politics and History, who has been teaching at Curry College for more than 45 years. The purpose of the fund is “to provide lectures and performances at Curry College by individuals who are prominent in the fields of academics, arts, sciences and public service.”

            Founded in 1879, Curry College is a private, four-year, liberal arts institution located on 131 acres in Milton, MA.  Curry extends its educational programs to a continuing education branch campus in Plymouth, MA. Curry offers 20 undergraduate majors, as well as graduate degrees in business, education, criminal justice and nursing, with a combined enrollment of approximately 4,150 students.  The student body consists of approximately 2,000 traditional undergraduate students, 1,650 continuing education and 500 graduate students.  Curry College students come from 31 states and 7 countries.  Over 1,400 of its students reside on the Curry campus.  The largest majors are business management, communication, nursing, criminal justice and education.  The College offers a wide array of extra-curricular activities ranging from 14 NCAA division III athletic teams to an outstanding theatre program.
