5 Things: What's Open/Closed on the 4th of July

A run-down of events and other useful information for your life in Milton on July 4, 2013.

1. Milton will celebrate Independence Day on Thursday, July 4 with Field and Relay Races at Kelly Field starting at 9:30 a.m.

The event, hosted by the Milton Kiwanis Club, will feature races and ribbons for different age groups. There will also be American flags, the Park Department will have its face painting expert on hand, the Milton Auxiliary Fire Department will be showcasing its vintage Fire Engine, and there will be ice cream for all.

2. All municipal, state and federal offices and facilities are closed today. This includes summer school, Milton Town Hall, the Milton Public Library, the Milton Council on Aging and all post offices. 

3. Liquor stores: Open at the owner's discretion.

Retail and convenience stores: Open at the owner's discretion. 

Restaurants and bars: Most will be open, but call ahead. It's up to the owner.

5. The MBTA today operates on a Sunday schedule, with extra service to and from the Esplanade for Boston's fireworks and Pops concert.
