Firefighters, Others from Milton ‘Fight for Air’

First responders, others hit the stairs at the American Lung Association's charity event earlier this month.

Firefighters and residents from Milton climbed more than 40 flights of stairs at the BNY Mellon Center on Washington Street in Boston on Feb. 1, as part of the American Lung Association’s annual “Fight for Air” event.

Called a “vertical road race” by organizers, the event raises money and awareness for lung cancer, asthma, air pollution and other breathing disorders.  

Residents participating in the race included Maureen Conlon (219th), M. Mannion (321st), and Susan Marcucci (902nd), all of Milton Boot Camp; Patricia Dobrindt (243rd) and Emily Duffy (287th) of Love at First Flight; Laureen Padula (343rd); Lori Laliberte (430th) and Abby Folger (645th) of the American Physical Therapy Association of MA; Krystal Rich (582nd) of Soxology; and Adam Donovan (581st), Kevin Kelly (889th), John Foley (1011th), and Tom Shannon (1048th) of the Milton Fire Department, and Todd Cantor (874th) of Milton who works for the Brookline Fire Department; and Maliek Gibbons (1069th).

Ryan Thomson, a Portland, Maine firefighter, won the firefighter division; while Andrew Hashway of Somerville, a part of the Gentle Giant Moving Company team, finished first out of all entrants.
