Hot Spots Still Smoldering at Blue Hills

A small brush fire is contained, but a few hot spots have been left behind.

A brush fire burned last week and into the weekend, and though firefighters and other officials helped extinguish the small blaze in the Blue Hills, the comments section of a recent Facebook post reveal the fire may still be burning.

In a post put up by Friends of Blue Hills, the Friends say the fire was still not out on Saturday and the forest floor continues to emit heat.

“According to the rangers there are still a couple of hot spots still smoldering. Quincy Fire was there again today as well as DCR fire fighters. You could expect to see some hot spots on the interior of the fire until it burns itself out or we get a lot more rain. Right now a lot of roots and insides of trees are burning and the little bit of rain we got isn’t getting to where it is needed,” the Friends of Blue Hills said in a comment.

The brush fire was contained to Quincy, but Blue Hills spreads through several area communities, including Milton.

Here’s another comment from a grateful hiker Jolaine Mooney: “Speaking for myself and fellow hikers we appreciate tremendously the exhausting time and effort that has been put forth to the extinguishing of this large area of fire by Quincy Fire dept and the DCR firefighters.”
