Milton Big Sister Celebrates One-Year Anniversary with Little Sister

Betzaida Crespo of Milton recently celebrated her one-year anniversary mentoring Little Sister Emely.

Milton resident, Big Sister Betzaida Crespo and her Little Sister Emely of Mattapan, recently celebrated their one year anniversary.

Big Sister Betzaida and Little Sister Emely both dressed as gypsies at Big Sister’s Annual Halloween Party. They like to go on hikes and play video games.

Big Sister Association of Greater Boston asks mentors to make a commitment of at least 12 months, though many Big and Little Sister relationships continue for several years, and even develop into lifelong friendships.

Research has shown that mentoring relationships lasting at least one year, particularly for girls, result in more positive outcomes in a girl’s social-emotional development, academic performance, and ability to make healthy decisions.

There are many essential elements for a successful match, including the volunteer’s commitment and the professional assessment, training, and support the volunteers receive from the agency’s social work staff.

Big Sister wishes to congratulate Crespo on making a difference in the life of her Little Sister as a caring, supportive friend and mentor.

The above release was submitted by Nikki White, Big Sister of Greater Boston.
