Milton Police Host Another Successful National Night Out

The Milton Police Department hosted an evening of family fun and community bonding on Wednesday, August 7, for the annual National Night Out.

About 2,000 people attended the event that featured rides, food, entertainment and plenty of police equipment.

Milton Police Chief Richard Wells Jr. posted the following statement on the MPD Facebook page.

This morning, I stood on the freshly cut front lawn of the Police Station and thought how lucky we were once again this year, to have such a beautiful day for our National Night Out Celebration. In the back of my mind however, I always worry a little, thinking, will the residents come? My answer was easy, I knew that the people of Milton would arrive at MPD to join with the men and women who protect them every day. Yes, you came to celebrate the partnership that exists between the Milton Police Department and nearly every agency of government, private institution, school, neighborhood and citizen that either works or lives here. We have a great community and you have a tremendous Police Department. Today, just like any other day, men and woman in radio cars and investigative units, worked to protect Milton. Tonight, they cooked hotdogs, played with your children and listened to your questions and thoughts. I hope that each of you appreciates this as much as I do as Chief. They are not perfect, but they care about you and your families. They grieve when you encounter sadness and they smile when you enjoy triumph and success. Collectively, we all make Milton a better place to live. Tonight, we thank all of you, 2000 strong who came to our home on Highland St. We also want to thank our partners in public safety who work with us every day. Special thanks to the MBTA Transit Police, Fallon EMS, Norfolk County Sheriffs Office, DCR, Milton Auxiliary Fire and Police, and the Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council fro your presence. I am also very grateful to the Mignosa Family and the Fruit Center Market Place, The Sausage King and all of the Gannon Family and Babycakes for their contributions to this effort. Last, I wish to thank all of the men and women of the department for their contribution and support of this very important evening, especially Officer Wanda Craig who coordinates this endeavor each year.
Finally, thank to everyone who attended. You have just strengthened the bond between the citizens of Milton and the Police Department. When deviance and crime threaten our community, it is our collective partnership, that enhances our quality of life and help to eradicate crime when it occurs. Thank you all so much.
