Milton residents have become increasingly annoyed, and frightened, by what seems to be an increase in illegal fireworks shot in Mattapan, reported the Boston Globe.
Boston Police didn't know if use of illegal fireworks activity had increased dramatically this summer, but Milton Police said they are used more often, and are bigger. Milton's Chief Richard Wells discussed the issue with the Board of Selectmen, said the Globe, and reported that this year, complaints began earlier (late May) about hearing the fireworks.
Last month, Milton resident Bonnie Abbot, who lives in the Tucker neighborhood, sent a letter to the editor to My Town Matters, complaining of the problem.
"These nightly displays of fireworks are getting very tiresome," she wrote in My Town Matters. This isn’t some town having a celebration. These fireworks are being set off by individuals who buy fireworks out of state and set them off illegally."
