Performance Art Project Documents Skies Above Miltons

PearlDamour, the performance art duo made up of Katie Pearl and Lisa D'Amour, describe Milton as a town of firsts – first chocolate factory in New England, first commercial railroad – and say that the town is one of their favorite places to see the sky.

From Blue Hill Observatory, home of the nation’s oldest continuously kept meteorological records, Pearl and D'Amour observed a stormy sky over 24 hours. Their record of the changing sky over Milton is part of a performance experiment "that explores the tiny American individual living under a huge, shared sky."

"The performance will be the culmination of multiple visits that we’ve been making to five 'Miltons”'over two years: Milton, WI, Milton, NC, Milton-Freewater, OR, Milton, LA and Milton, MA," PearlDamour writes on its website.

"In these towns, we meet people through community organizations, friends of friends, churches and serendipitous encounters, talking to a diverse cross-section of each town to learn more about the nature of the individual, living within a U.S. community, here on planet earth."

By visiting www.skyovermilton.com, residents can share their own photos and learn about the other Miltons.

PearlDamour has put on performances across the country, from a 15-person show in a Manhattan basement to a 1,000-person show at Stone Arch Bridge in Minneapolis.
