Square Café Chef Thanks Community For Helping Milton Family

Executive Chef Andrea Schnell says thank you to the many people who have supported her family after the loss of her cousin, Mark MacDougall of Milton.

Just six weeks after Andrea Schnell got the terrible news that her 28-year-old cousin had passed away unexpectedly, the community of Hingham has rallied around her family.

Schnell, who is the Executive Chef of the Square Café, started a trust fund with her family for her cousin, Mark MacDougall of Milton.  MacDougall had just moved into a brand new home with his wife Nicole, formerly of Weymouth and  their two young children, Isabella and Charlie.  Worst of all, he had no life insurance when what doctors say was an enlarged heart took his life.

Last Thursday, the Square Café along with Hingham business Sara Campbell and the Hingham Mothers Club came together to raise money for Mark’s family.  They held a fundraiser at Sara Campbell where 10 percent of all proceeds went to the MacDougall family trust fund.

Schnell was present at the fundraiser and just wanted to say thank you to everyone.

“It means everything- the outpouring support has been something that has really carried us through this tragedy,” Schnell said. “I just want to thank everyone involved.”

In recent weeks she has received hundreds of dollars of donations from local residents and businesses and support from customers.  One customer even surprised her when he walked into her kitchen at the Square Café and just gave her a hug to say sorry for her loss.

Most recently a Weymouth resident, MacDougall lived in Milton for most of his life and graduated from Milton High School.  He died while serving as the Plumbing Service Manager of MacDougall Plumbing and Mechanical in Milton. The funeral was Wednesday, September 5.
