VIDEO: How Hingham Residents Set Up the Largest Flag in Town

A look at the largest flag in Hingham.

If you drive by Main Street you can't miss the largest American flag in Hingham during this Fourth of July week.

It's huge!

It's draped over the home of Edie Earle, a longtime Hingham resident who said her son, Gerry, who works for a flag company, has been putting it up for 14 years.

"My son puts the ladder up to the gutter and climbs it, and we feed the flag up to him," Earle said.

Gerry then runs across the roofline and drapes in down.  He uses bungie cords to attach the flag to the house, where it covers the entire front of the Main Street home.

"No it doesn't make the house dark inside," Earle said.  "It's just kind of a nice shady cave."

The Earle's live where Main Street intersects Central Street by the Cronin Field entrance.
