Wild Map Shows Flow of People to and From Bay State

Massachusetts lost net population in 2012. See where it went.

By Chris Helms

Which states would you guess Massachusetts exchanges the most population with?

A wild new data visualization shows how people move between states. Created by Chris Walker, the interactive map shows the Bay State sends and receives the most people with California, Florida, New York and New Hampshire.

The data comes from 2012, when the Bay State actually lost 15,579 residents.

Head over to Walker's site,viznary.com, to experience the map. Hat tip to the Atlantic Cities, which aptly compared the full map to "peering into the scope of an alien hyper-rifle."
