Bianca de la Garza, Milton Native, Leaves NewsCenter 5

Anchor Bianca de la Garza signed off the top rated WCVB-TV NewsCenter 5 EyeOpener broadcast Friday to delve into her next exciting TV role – entertainment host and executive producer. The Milton native launched Lucky Gal Productions LLC this year and is developing a lifestyle show to air on WCVB-TV in January 2015.

The EyeOpener is New England's #1 morning newscast, winning the May 2014 Nielsen ratings in total viewers and the coveted 25-54 demographic. de la Garza felt an on-air sign off  "simply is not enough to express my gratitude to the viewers." She wanted to personally thank her loyal fans. In a distinct way she's sharing her heartfelt appreciation, publishing a "thank you" letter to New England.

de la Garza writes in her letter, "After 17 years of covering news across the globe, I've seen incredible moments in history. Thank you New England for the love you've shown, the loyalty you've afforded, and support you've given. I am a lucky gal."

Mayor Tom Menino says of Bianca's departure, "The EyeOpener is always on in my house and I will miss seeing Bianca first thing in the morning, yet I am excited for her to start her new venture. I look forward to watching Bianca as she again redefines the traditional roles of women in media."

Off-air Bianca volunteers for many charities. Philanthropist Corinne Grousbeck, co-chair of the Perkins Possibilities Gala – which de la Garza served as a committee member – says "Bianca is that rare combination of a woman who is as beautiful on the inside as she is out."

Bianca's colleagues in entertainment are remarking on her new chapter. Tom Bergeron of ABC's hit show Dancing with the Stars says "Bianca is a natural on TV. The camera loves her. I'm not kidding."
