Citizens Bank Customers Cashing in on Lawsuit

Reimbursements began Sept. 19 for those impacted by bank's handling of overdraft fees.

Many customers and former customers of Citizens Bank are finding checks in the mail as part of a class action lawsuit aimed at how the bank handled overdraft fees.

Customers who submitted claims in the $137.5 million overdraft class action settlement last year started receiving payments in September.The deadline to submit a claim was May 6, 2013

Those impacted included customers with a Citizens Bank consumer account accessible with a Citizens Bank debit card between January 1, 2002 and August 13, 2010 and paid overdraft fees.

On March 12, 2013, a U.S. District Court granted final approval for the settlement.

Settlement payments began being disbursed to those settlement class members on Sept. 19.
