Sen. Joyce: $1M for Milton Village Project On Its Way

The grant was awarded to the town in 2012.

Funding for a roadway improvement project that would link the Central Avenue business district with Miton Village will be delivered after an unexpected delay.

State Sen. Brian Joyce said the state will officially award the $1 million MassWorks Infrastructure Project grant to the Milton Village Streetscape Improvement Project, according to a statement Monday.

The funding was delayed pending an Executive Office of Administration and Finance review, the statement says.

Aside from linking the two areas of town, the project plans to develop the Hendries plant, Milton Hill Apartments and a new condo complex along Central Avenue, according to the statement.

“These funds play a key role in the continued economic renaissance of the Central Avenue area and have already spurred private investment and job creation,” said Joyce in the statement. “I understand that the administration wants to ensure fiscal responsibility and I’m thankful that they understood that a delay would have disastrous consequences for Milton’s continued improvement.”

The project will contribute numerous streetscape improvements, including lighting, curbing and pedestrian upgrades in the Central Avenue area. It will also reconstruct High Street and create a pocket park near the Central Avenue T stop. The grant was awarded to the town in 2012.
