Yoga Comes to Milton Town Green Sunday

The Milton Yoga Foundation, Front Line Yoga and the Jimmy Fund will host Yoga on the Milton Town Green on September 9.

On a typical Sunday afternoon, the Baron Hugo Gazebo and the green in front of are quiet and empty. This Sunday, the Town Green will be much more occupied, but similarly hushed.

Milton Yoga will host Yoga on the Milton Town Green Sunday, September 9, from 2 to 4 p.m. The free community event will raise money the Jimmy Fund and the Milton Yoga Foundation while collecting toiletries and clothing for Front Line Yoga.

Milton Yoga owner Sean McCarthy, who launched the Milton Yoga Foundation in January, organized the event with a student who works at the Jimmy Fund. He also brought in Front Line Yoga founder Danny Dwyer, who went from being homeless in Boston to collecting items and teaching yoga to people in a similar situation.

“We all collaborated and it came together,” said McCarthy.

The Milton Yoga Foundation will provide scholarships to yoga students who have experienced financial difficulties so they are able to continue their practice. McCarthy has also had preliminary talks with local school districts to offer classes to students.

“This is the first event to kick it off and get things started,” said McCarthy.

McCarthy and his instructors will lead 15-minute yoga sessions throughout the two-hour event. There will also be children’s yoga.

Organizers are asking for a $5 donation for the event. Every $10 donation earns a raffle ticket for a long list of gift certificates Milton and area businesses.

Besides free several free yoga passes, the following businesses have donated prizes: Abby Park, Ashmont Grill, Starbucks, Milton Barber Shop, Belle Visage, Radio Coffee House and Central Liquor Mart.

“It’s a good way to get the community involved,” McCarthy said.

McCarthy is hoping his first outdoor yoga at Town Hall will draw between 40 and 50 people.

The event is not just for experienced yoga practitioners.

“The hardest part of yoga is getting through the door,” said McCarthy, encouraging people to check out the event.

Hosting Yoga events on the Milton Town Green is a great idea and providing scholarships to yoga students who have experienced financial difficulties is another revolutionary one. Thanks Mr. Mean McCarthy. Nayeema Akter www.anamayaresort.com
