Milton Recognized as One of Best Places to Live by CNN/Money Magazine

While residents have known for generations, Milton is once again getting national recognition as a great place to live. Milton was named number two on the CNN/Money Magazine 2011 Best Places to Live in America.

“I think it’s fantastic news for the town,” said Board of Selectmen Chair Robert Sweeney of Milton’s third, and highest, appearance on the list of 100 small American towns.

The annual list recognizes towns below 50,000 people with a combination of fiscal strength, job opportunities and strong schools among other factors.

Louisville, CO headlines the list followed by Milton and Solon, OH.

Sweeney pointed to Milton’s location and semi-rural atmosphere as key factors to the town’s popularity.

“We’ve maintained our single family homes,” said Sweeney. “We’ve maintained our tree-lined streets.”

The article on CNN’s website echoes Sweeney’s sentiment.

“Milton is just minutes from the jobs and culture of Boston but feels in places like a country getaway,” writes Ismat Sarah Mangla.

The article also points to the excellence of the Milton Public School system, including the new buildings and French Immersion program, as a driving force for Milton’s stable real estate market and high quality of life.

The success of the school department is repeated across the town Sweeney said. Sweeney said people across Milton have “pride in perfection” from town departments to elected officials and from appointed boards to residents.
