Norfolk County Ranks Third in the Commonwealth for Health

Dukes and Middlesex counties ranked first and second for healthy living.

Norfolk Country ranked third out of the 14 counties in Massachusetts for quality of health.

The rankings were released by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute, which examined factors such as premature death, adult smoking, high school graduation rates and insurance coverage rates to determine the overall health of counties.

Norfok County was ranked 1 to 14, when compared to the other counties, on the following six factors:

The study reported in Norfolk County 20% of adults are obese, 13 percent smoke, 20% are inactive, 19% drink excessively; and 158 cases of sexually transmitted infections per 100,000 population and seven teen births per 1,000 teenage girls. 

Nineteen percent of the children in Norfolk County are raised in single parent households; 42% of the restuarants are fast food; 92% of the adults are high school graduates and 80% have some college education.
