NSTAR to Conduct Infrared Inspections of Transmission Lines

NSTAR will use helicopters to inspect transition lines this week.

NSTAR will be performing infrared inspections of transmission lines this week. According to a release from the company, the annual helicopter inspections of electrical equipment on the South Shore and Cape Cod will take place Wednesday and Thursday.

“Residents and businesses depend on reliable electric service to power their day-to-day lives,” said Werner Schweiger, NSTAR President.  “Our annual helicopter inspections of the transmission lines in Eastern Massachusetts are a critical part of NSTAR’s commitment to providing that reliable service.”

The inspections are designed to detect issues not seen by the naked eye. Unlike the inspections done last year, this work will not require the helicopter to hover over the equipment.
