Free Film Screening of Documentary: "It's A Girl"

The United Nations estimates that "gendercide" - the killing, abortion, and abandonment of girls - is estimated worldwide to be 200 million.  "It's A Girl" is a new documentary filmed in China and India that reveals the war against girls is rooted in centuries-old tradition and sustained through cultural dynamics.  This film tells the story of abandoned and trafficked girls, of women who suffer extreme dowry-related violence, of brave mothers fighting to save their daughters' lives, and of other mothers who would kill for a son.  Global experts and grassroots activitists put the stories in context and advocate different paths towards change, while collectively lamenting the lack of any truly effective action against this injustice.  This free screening is sponsored by The Friends of the Milton Public Library and will start promptly at 6:30 PM.  For more information, contact Jean Hlady, Adult Services Librarian, at (617) 698-5757.
