Holiday Season in Roslindale Village
Holiday Tree Lighting - November 30th
This holiday season Roslindale Village invites you to experience a Rozzie Christmas like no other. The Village will transform into a winter wonderland worthy of Whoville. The 29th Annual Tree Lighting ceremony marks the official kick off of the holidays in the Village, starting at 3:00 PM in Adams Park on Saturday, November 30th.
This much-loved event always draws a crowd to enjoy the performances, crafts, ornament art projects for the kids this year featuring Art Van Go, a mobile art van based in Roslindale, and Santa's arrival in the Ladder 16 fire truck. There will be free hot chocolate, treats from local bakeries, carolers from the Sacred Heart Chorus, the Christopher Mish Brass Quartet, and of course, visits with Santa and Mayor Menino.
Small Business Saturday- November 30th
November 30th is also Small Business Saturday, a national campaign by
American Express to help spur business for neighborhood merchants. Roslindale Village has been chosen as one of three locations across the country to be showcased. Special deals will be available for American Express cardholders as well as chances to win $25 American Express gift cards, so be on the lookout for raffle boxes at your favorite businesses.
Model Railroad Museum – December 7th, 8th
On the weekend of December 7th and 8th, The Bay State Model Railroad Museum will open for its only public showing
of the year. They will also host Santa and the Holiday Train Show from 11:00AM to 3:00PM. Santa will arrive in elegant style promptly at 12:00 noon on Sunday December 8th.
Holiday Wander - December 5th, 12th, & 19th
On the first three Thursday evenings in December, more than 25 Roslindale village shops and restaurants will stay open late for the holiday season. In addition, they will be hosting wine and food tastings, performances, or offering great deals. Here is just a sample of what some businesses will be offering or hosting this Holiday Wander:
The Wander kicks off with free childcare at the Roslindale Community Center. Drop your children off at the Community Center on Cummins Highway for the evening and hit the town to enjoy some grown up fun such as a wine tasting co-hosted by Redd’s in Rozzie and Tony’s Market with a selection of food and wine from Tony's home region of Napoli. There will be a host of treats including comfort food - small plate delicacies by Charlie Redd, Tony's sausages also prepared by Charlie, and all-natural beef stew from Tony's. 6-8pm
On December 12th, El Chavo Mexican Products will be hosting a Posada
Navideña. A true Mexica (and now Roslindale tradition) Nativity re-enactment of Joseph and Mary seeking lodging. Come dressed warm, ready to carol for "POSADA" or "SHELTER" around the square and expect to be greeted by warm tamales, hampurrado, piñatas for the kids and other Mexican goodies. We will depart from El Chavo accompanied by a Mariachi Band at 6:00 pm sharp!
December 19th will feature roving musicians, caroling, and a luminary
candle-lighting event in Adams Park.
