Monday Night at the Movies: Saving Mr. Banks

The Milton Public Library invites you to a special showing of the film, Saving Mr. Banks in a free event, sponsored by The Friends of the Milton Public Library.  Saving Mr. Banks tells the surprising story behind the making of  the film "Mary Poppins."  When Walt Disney (Tom Hanks) finally meets the author of Mary Poppins, P.L. Travers (Emma Thompson), he soon realizes she will not be won over into signing him the rights to her story.  It is only when Walt recalls the memories of his own childhood that he is able to understand Travers, and learn the truth behind her story of Mary Poppins.  This story of understanding is what ultimately brings Mary Poppins to life on the screen.

Directed by John Lee Hancock and starring Emma Thompson and Ton Hanks, Saving Mr. Banks received an Academy Award nomination for music by composer Thomas Newman, as well as nominations from the Golden Globe, BAFTA and Screen Actors Guild for best performances and music.  Rated PG-13 (125 minutes).
