Milton Council on Aging Introduces New Walking Group

Mary Ann Sullivan, Director of the Milton Council on Aging, introduces a new senior walking group, led by Maureen Conlon.

Wednesday was the first day of an exciting new group here at the .

It is a walking group led by the Fitness Guru of Milton, Maureen Conlon.  Maureen has been a volunteer here at the COA for two years now and in that short time has done so much to improve the health of everyone in our community.

Many of you know Maureen from her extremely popular Boot Camps, which she holds throughout town. These are wonderful but after having tried one they are difficult for most of us over 60.

Maureen approached us with a new idea recently about holding a walking group for seniors here on Wednesday mornings at 10:15 a.m. On Wednesday there were about 10 seniors who walked a mile around the parking lot and then spent time doing stretching and balance exercises.

Now for the best part… there is no fee!

Maureen feels so strongly that she wants to give back to her town and this is as she says, “just my small way of saying thank you for all the support the town of Milton has given me.”

New friends are encouraged to join the group any Wednesday and we may even do a road trip over to Castle Island some Wednesday morning.  Just remember you do the walk at your own pace and no one will ever know if you are the leader of the pack or picking up the end.

It is also nice to talk while you walk and perhaps make a new walking buddy along the way.  Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions about this new and exciting program.  Our sincere thanks and appreciation to Maureen Conlon for all she does not only for the senior citizens of Milton, but for our entire community.
