VIDEO: Celebrating a Legacy

The Milton Interfaith Clergy Association held its annual memorial celebration of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday evening.

Milton residents came out in force on Martin Luther King Jr. Day for a full evening of celebrating diversity and community.

Though the event was held in a familiar sanctuary on Blue Hill Avenue, it was the first MLK Celebration held at Concord Baptist Church after Temple Shalom left the site.

The Milton Interfaith Clergy Association staged another all-inclusive event with student art, essays and performances as well as an action dialog lead by students. After a performance by the Milton High School Gospel Chorus, Liturgical Dancers, / After-School Singers and a simple supper, the memorial celebration was held in the church space.

The celebration featured community singing, a reading of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech, a proclamation from the Board of Selectmen and the Puppeteers.

The Milton Interfaith Clergy Association also presented the MLK Scholars awards to two Milton High students who will attend initiative training this summer.

Aria Perkins and Mona Yuan were recognized for penning award-winning essays about the celebrated civil rights leader.
