Where are Milton's Worst Drivers?

If it were up to you, where would you set up a speed trap in Milton?

We've all had the feeling—a driver cuts you off, ignores a red light or speeds past a group of children and our sense of justice kicks in: “How great would it be if a cop saw that?”

We wanted to throw this question out to our readers: in a perfect world, where would you set up the town's next speed trap?

Your neighborhood cross street? A school crossing walk? Somewhere along Randolph Avenue or Adams Street? Tell us where the town should set up a net for speeders in our comments section below.

Brook Road. Right in front of St Mary's School

Pleasant St. at Hazel St., in front of Matrakas' Market. And in between stops they could ticket all the cars that park in the crosswalk, at the bus stop, in front of the fire hydrant, and on the corner. When they are all tagged they could pull over everyone that does an illegal U-turn in front of the store. The town budget situation would be improved within a week!

Thacher Street, especially the stretch between Brook Road and Warren Street.

Hudson Street during morning and afternoon rush hour. Was leaving for work today and saw three cars in a row come from Blue Hill Ave, cutting through Hudson Street toward Ferncroft Road doing at least 45 mph. Ridiculous on this small congested street. (And this was at 6:30 this morning) Can you imagine if a child was out playing???

The light on Brook Road at St. Mary's Road heading towards the Parkway is extremely dangerous. At least 5-6 cars run the red light every morning. If not there then Briarfield Road from Brook towards Eliot. Although a Do Not Enter between 7-9am sign has been installed every morning cars continue to cut through to avoid the red light. By the time they get to Hawthorn Road which is only 2 houses up they are doing at least 30. It is a matter of time before someone is badly hurt, hopefully it won't be a child. Something needs to be done.

Adams Street in Milton Village between Eliot and Wharf - both pedestrians and cars. Pedestrians dart across the street between speeding cars. I only use the pedestrian light to cross Adams at the corner of Eliot, and my batting average is about 50%. I've had to jump backwards while in the middle of the street to avoid being hit by cars running the light on Adams Street coming from Dorchester. I spoke to a Milton police person there once about it and was told that there's not enough distance from Milton to the Dorchester line at the Neponset River to stop someone. I've also written to Chief Wells with no result. I never see a Milton police person in this area. The problem is not people running the Eliot Street light on Adams from Milton to Dorchester, but it's from Dorchester to Milton. I personally know someone who has been struck here and it's only a matter of tike before someone is killed or seriously injured. The timing of the light needs to be changed or a sting should be set up going uphill on the Milton side to stop this. Often there are 3 or 4 cars that run the light heading into Milton.

Blue Hills Parkway... folks think it's a speedway since it's a straight shot into/out of the City. Motorists forget that plenty of children head to school either to Tucker Elementary/Milton High or even heading to Pierce going down Warren! It's dreadful!

Hope Ave in the morning....drivers from Squantum Street going down the one way to avoid the light at Granite & Squantum.

FERNCROFT ROAD..they whip down that street at all hours! A STOP sign is needed badly at the bottom of Victoria Street & Ferncroft Rd...VERY dangerous!

Hope Ave, any time. No one stops for the Stop sign at the intersection with Cedar Terrace. There are a lot of kids in the area, very dangerous.

Thacher Street.....at Central. Cars speed down the hill at that stretch of Thacher St all the while children are crossing to get to Pierce Middle School, or the other direction to get to Milton High.
