Metal Detector Operator Finds Body Near Hutchinson's Field

Milton Police say a dead body was found in the woods near Hutchinson's Field on Saturday. Foul play is not suspected.

The Milton Police Department is waiting on a medical examiner's report to identify a man whose body was found by a metal detector operator along the Neponset River at the base of Hutchinson's Field.

Deputy Police Chief John King said a man located the body near a rock about 25 feet from the Neponset River around 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, August 10.

"There were no obvious signs of trauma on the body and no signs of foul play," King said, adding the body was about 10 feet into the woods at the base of Governor Hutchinson's Field.

Hutchinson's Field is located on Adams Street across from the Forbes House Museum.

Police believe the man was a 54 year old who was reported missing to the Amesbury Police Department on Tuesday, August 6. King said the man had connections to Milton, but lived in Amesbury.

King said the man's name should be released by the medical examiner this week.
