Metro LEC Recognized for AMBER Alert Responsiveness After Mock Drill Success

The organization will receive an award from the AMBER Alert Training and Technical Assistance Program on Feb. 18.

Written by Matt Perkins

In alignment with National AMBER Alert Awareness Day, the Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council in Massachusetts announced Monday that it successfully met the standards of a "mock" child abduction drill that took place in Norwood last summer.

As part of that drill, which took place in Norwood on July 23-24, 2013, officers from member agencies of the Metro LEC organization mobilized and responded to Norwood to investigate the mock report of a missing child.

Assessors then evaluated the Metro LEC Child Abduction Response Team (Metro CART), specifically focusing on protocols and the effectiveness of the drill to meet the standards of the U.S. Department of Justice.

As a result, Metro CART was able to meet the necessary standards and will become the 19th nationally-certified CART team, and only the second northeastern state team to receive the honor, Metro LEC said in a statement Monday.

The U.S. Department of Justice and Phil Keith, Program Director of the AMBER Alert Training and Technical Assistance Program, will present Metro LEC with an award  on Feb. 18.
