Pedestrian Killed in Front of Milton Police Station

A 78-year-old Milton resident was struck and killed between the police station and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Milton.

An 78-year-old Milton resident was struck and killed on Highland Street near the Milton Police Headquarters and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Milton.

A Milton officer was leaving the station at about 5 p.m. Friday when he saw several cars stopped between the station and medical center, according to police.

He observed a body lying in the middle of the roadway after an elderly woman was struck by a Jeep sedan that was travelling northbound on Highland Street toward Mattapan, according to police.

The 78-year-old longtime Milton resident suffered major trauma and was in traumatic arrest. She was taken to BIDMC where she was pronounced dead a short time later, said police.

Milton Police are not identifying the victim pending family notification. No charges have been filed against the driver at this time.

Speed does not appear to be a factor. It was dusk and raining lightly at the time of the crash, said police.

Milton and State Police are investigating the accident.

My condolences to the family of this woman, and may she rest in peace. The street lighting on Highland St makes for very poor visibility. It is very dark when walking anywhere on Highland, especially behind the hospital after the sun goes down. It can be very dangerous walking at night in this part of Milton. I think the town should address the lighting issues on the streets of Milton. When I am walking the dog at night you can't see other people until they are right in front of you. To put it bluntly the street lighting on Highland and surrounding streets sucks. How much money does the town save by eliminating street lighting ?

The lighting is bad and people often drive faster than the speed limit. Further the sidewalk disappears into the Milton Hospital property. It is pretty but the lighting is non-existent.
