Police Log: Hurricane Sandy Edition

This is an excerpt from the Milton Police Log on Monday, October 29.

The following information was provided by the Milton Police Department relating to Monday’s hurricane. No injuries were reported during the storm.

  • At 12:18 p.m. Monday, a caller reported a tree knocked down a utility pole on Brush Hill Road. The Milton DPW closed sections of the road. Verizon and NStar were notified.
  • At 12:50 p.m. Monday, a caller reported a tree fell on the power line and caused a fire at Canton Avenue and Corey Lane. Milton Fire was notified to handle. NStar was called for repairs.
  • At 12:53 p.m. Monday, a caller reported a tree branch fell on some wires on Elm Street. The tree, which was on private property was resting on telephone wires. The caller was advised to contact a tree company and Verizon.
  • At 1:08 p.m. Monday, a 911 caller reported a transformer blew on Canton Avenue. NStar was notified. No emergency vehicles were required on the scene because the transformer was not on fire.
  • At 1:10 p.m. Monday, Milton Police Headquarters lost power and began running off the generator.
  • 1:31 p.m. Monday, a caller reported a tree fell in the roadway at Cheever Street and Brush Hill Road. An officer reported the tree was on the traffic island on Brush Hill Road. State Police and DCR were notified to handle.
  • At 2:25 p.m. Monday, a patrol supervisor reported the traffic lights were out at Library Corner (Reedsdale Road and Canton Avenue). A sector car was assigned to the intersection to remain with its emergency lights on for as long as call for service volume allowed.
  • At 2:37 p.m. Monday, a caller reported a tree branch fell on top of a car at St. Agatha’s Parish. The DPW was notified to remove the tree from the car. No injuries were reported and no tows were needed.
  • At 2:38 p.m. Monday, a 911 caller reported a tree in the roadway at Blue Hill Avenue and Dollar Lane. Mass. Highway was notified.
  • At 3:09 p.m. Monday, a 911 caller reported a tree branch in the wires on Cedar Terrace Street. Milton Fire and NStar were notified.
  • At 3:28 p.m. Monday, a caller reported a utility pole and tree were down at the intersection of Cypress Road and Lyman Road. NStar and Milton Fire were notified. Auxiliary Fire was called to assist.
  • At 3:52 p.m. Monday, a caller reported tree branches in contact with power lines on Governors Road. Milton Fire was notified to respond. The area was roped for to be handled by NStar.
  • At 4:35 p.m. Monday, a caller reported a large tree fell and was blocking the roadway near Gun Hill Road and Randolph Avenue. Milton DPW and NStar were alerted.
  • At 4:48 p.m. Monday, a caller reported a tree was blocking Central Avenue. An officer was able to clear the roadway.
  • At 4:48 p.m. Monday, a caller reported power lines down on Blue Hill Avenue. NStar and Milton Fire were called.
  • At 5:36 p.m. Monday, a caller reported a tree down on power lines at Aberdeen Road and Blue Hill Avenue. NStar was notified.
  • At 6:00 p.m. a caller from Grafton Avenue reported a transformer seemed to be sparking. An officer reported damage to the pole. NStar was notified to handle the problem.
  • At 6:34 p.m. a caller reported wires sparking on Canton Avenue. Milton Fire responded to the scene and NStar was notified.
  • At 6:39 p.m. Monday, a caller reported a wire sparking at Wendell Park and Channing Street. Milton Fire and NStar was notified.
  • At 6:42 p.m. Monday, a caller reported downed wires at Washington Street and Johnson Street. Auxiliary Fire was notified to standby. NStar was called for a repair.
  • At 6:51 p.m. Monday, a caller reported a large tree branch blocking Whittier Road. An officer was able to move the branch to the side of the road. DPW was notified for removal.
  • At 7:45 p.m. Monday, a caller reported a tree down and blocking the northbound lane of Randolph Avenue. DPW was notified to remove the tree.
  • At 8:11 p.m. Monday, a caller reported the traffic light at Blue Hill Avenue and Brook Road were stuck on red. An officer was able to reset the lights.
  • At 9:25 p.m. Monday, a caller reported flooding at Brook Road and Pleasant Street. Milton DPW was notified of minor flooding in the area.
  • At 11:11 p.m. Monday, State Police reported a tree branch causing a road hazard on Metropolitan Avenue. DPW was notified to handle.
