Board Appoints Gov’t Study Committee

And other notes from last night's Board of Selectmen meeting.

The Milton Board of Selectmen appointed a committee to study town government at a meeting Tuesday night.

The Board appointed Thomas Callahan, Julie Creamer, Philip Murphy, J. Thomas Hurley and Frank Davis to the Affordable Housing Trust Fund Committee through November 2014.

1.           The Board approved the November 4 and November 7 meeting minutes as written.

2.           The Board voted to extend the reduced rate for the Milton Art Center Lease for an additional six months and agreed to add the reductions to the last three years of the lease agreement.

3.           The Board voted to reject the bid received from Carrick Realty Trust for the purchase of the Town-owned property at 0 Central Avenue.

4.           The Board voted to grant $500 from the Mary L. Peabody Fund for the purchase of holiday gifts for needy Milton residents.

5.           The Board appointed Richard Neely, Leroy Walker, Marvin Gordon and John Cronin to the Town Government Study Committee through November 2014.

              The Board appointed Thomas Callahan, Julie Creamer, Philip Murphy, J. Thomas Hurley and Frank Davis to the Affordable Housing Trust Fund Committee through November 2014.

6.           The Board approved temporary signage requests from the Friends of Milton Crew and the Milton Arts Center.

7.           The Board approved and signed a letter of thanks to Mary Ann Dirrane, a former van driver for the COA.

8.           The Board approved the promotion of John Thompson to Town Engineer.

9.           The Board approved the issuance of two (2) one day liquor licenses to the Fruit Center Marketplace for events on November 19 and December 3, 2013.

10.         The Board voted to appoint Cadet Travis Weekes to the position of Patrolman.

11.         The Board approved and forwarded to the Warrant Committee the following budgets:  Inspectional Services, Fire Department, Police Department, MEMA, Consolidated Facilities, Law and General Insurance.

12.         The Board met with representatives from the School Department to discuss the establishment of a committee to explore the consolidation of school and town functions.
