Milton Knights of Columbus Selling its Property

Members of the Milton Knights of Columbus have decided to sell their property on Thacher Street because it has fallen into disrepair over the years and the membership is having a difficult time keeping up with maintenance and taxes.

The group owes about $15,000 in residential taxes to the town for the single-family home on the front portion of the property, according to listing broker Joe Donnelly, a Realtor with Vogt Realty Group. To avoid losing the property altogether, the Knights hope to sell at a discount and put the proceeds into a charitable fund.

Additional difficulties involve the hall's septic system, which needs to be connected to the town's sewer system, an easement in the driveway for the abutting Food Mart and a small amount of frontage that could limit development possibilities, Donnelly said.

"It's got some baggage," he said.

Donnelly, himself a member of the Quincy Knights of Columbus, said ideally the organization will find a buyer willing to take the property as is and move forward with any zoning requests on their own. The home on the lot is currently being rented and Donnelly said the Knights would also like a new owner to inherit the tenant, at least in the short-term.

The Knights had one offer as of Monday morning and another possible bite, Donnelly said. They are meeting now at Saint Elizabeth Parish and will gather next on July 17 for a possible vote on an offer. Members would then also have to approve a purchase and sale agreement.

The Knights have used the property at 5-9 Thacher St. for more than six decades, Donnelly said. It is approximately 16,600 square feet and listed for $500,000.

The single-family home is 6,400 square feet with three bedrooms and one bathroom. See the listing at http://vogtrealtygroup.com/active-listings.asp?listing_id={0FCA238A-058D-4ED3-B501-2936F6445089}
