Milton Beats Norwood 10-7 on Senior Night

Milton High School defeated Norwood at home.

It was the fourth quarter and appeared the Norwood Mustangs were going to leave Milton High with a 7-3 win over the Wildcats on November 2.

Joe Kennedy put the Wildcats on the board with a 43 yard field goal in the first quarter giving Milton the lead 3-0, but the Mustangs would score before the half and take the lead 7-3.

Both defenses commanded the second half as neither team could score.

With time running out in the fourth, Milton was on their 25 yard line looking for a first down. Quarterback Liam Collins knew his pass needed to be on the mark as Colin O'Brien cut across the middle. Collins fired a direct hit for a 12-yard gain and a first down.

The next play was about to leave a lasting memory with all the Milton players and fans.

Collins had tried several times during the game to connect with Kareem Patterson, but the Mustangs defended him well.

Collins took the the hike from center Conor Murphy and rolled to his right. Patterson was at full speed as he turned and the ball was already on its way. The fans were cheering as Patterson made the catch. A Mustang lunged, just missing him. Patterson was running for the win and he knew it. His feet barely touched the ground as he charged down the sideline. Touchdown. The crowd erupted with a roar that could be heard all the way to Milton Center.

This is what high school football is all about. Hard to put into words, but the Wildcats and their fans knew this was special and the feeling from it capped off senior night for the players and their parents.

It was then up to the defense to finish the game and the Mustangs threw everything they had only to be refused the touchdown they needed.

It was a night to remember.

Next up for the Wildcats, and their last home game, against Dedham at Brooks Field on Friday, November 9, 2012. Start time is 7 p.m.
