Milton’s Lady Wildcats played at Babson College, Wellesley, on Saturday, January 28, against the Needham Rockets.
Milton with a 3-8-1 record and Needham with a 4-6-1 record were pretty evenly matched, so it made for and exciting game. Both teams had freshman goalies in the net.
Needham would take command early on scoring 3 times in the first period. Between periods Milton Coach Maggie Radley, told the team to settle down and play their game and the goals will come.
Senior Captain Erin Carmody would shoot a slap shot from the outside that would find the net putting Milton on the board at the start of the second period. Carmody would again find an open net at the corner, giving Milton another goal. The score was 3-2 at the end of the second period.
The third period would find both freshman goalies denying shot after shot until Milton freshman Sioban Murtagh would fire from the outside hitting the side of the net at the 2:45 mark, tying the game. With the game tied, Milton had a chance for the win as Carmody’s shot on goal was a little high, just missing the net.
Commenting on the game Coach Radley stated, “The kids did a good job digging themselves out of a hole, but our freshmen stepped up showing a lot of maturity giving us the tying goal. We have to work on playing at the beginning so we don’t put ourselves in these situations. We have some tough games ahead of us and have to play a little better. We are getting beat by teams we should be beating. It was nice to have our goalie Sarah Park back. She was out for a couple of games with the flu.”
Next game for the Milton team will be against Weymouth at Weymouth on Wednesday, February 1. The start time has not been announced.
