Executive Director Mike Lynch along with MPEG President Bernie Lynch, Clerk Marvin Gordon and Dr. Frank Giuliano, the organization’s treasurer, addressed the School Committee.

MPEG, which is available on Comcast channels 8 and 22, currently airs Selectmen and School Committee meetings as well as other community events and Milton programs.

The new equipment and home base for MPEG was funded by local charges from the two local cable providers— Comcast and RCN—which is ultimately funneled through the Board of Selectmen. According to Bernie Lynch, the latest quarterly funds were around $84,000.

The former cramped quarters of rooms 114 and 115 at Pierce Middle School are on their way to becoming a $187,000 studio.

“Basically, they tore the whole room out so we could start new,” Mike Lynch said of the former office and studio.

The reception area, full production set, offices and seating for 30 will be surrounded by around $100,000 worth of equipment. The studio also has access doors from the inside and outside of the school.

The studio in Room 245 at Milton High School and the eventual home to School Committee meetings is the former backstage area when the 25 Gile Road building was the middle school.

The Black Box Theater has been equipped with computers for students to use for editing.

With a lease on rooms in two Milton Public Schools, the Milton Access TV representatives shared the numerous possibilities for collaboration.

“Mike, here, is committed to work with the students,” Giuliano said of Executive Director Mike Lynch’s dedication to education. Mike Lynch has already worked with Milton High’s digital production classes.

“You have extended yourself and have really integrated yourself into the faculty,” said Superintendent Mary Gormley, of Mike Lynch’s previous work at MHS.

The new studios present a wide range of opportunities for students.  On Wednesday, the group discusses televised morning and afternoon broadcasts in the school as well as a semester in review show for high school students. The ideas of club and for-credit work in the studios were also considered.

“We’re every school on the school side to offer these opportunities before school, during school and after school,” John Phelan.

Gormley also highlighted the excitement of broadcasting student programming to the communittee.

An open house of the new MPEG Television studio at Pierce Middle School will be scheduled for August. For the schedule of Milton Access TV programs and photos of the renovation visit miltonaccesstv.org.
