Amateur Gardeners’ Club Hosts Floral Workshop at Senior Center

The annual Amateur Gardeners' Club of Milton Valentine's Day event at the Council on Aging was attended by nearly 70 Milton residents.

About 70 Milton seniors filed into the on Thursday, February 9, for the Eighth Annual Valentine’s Day Tea and Garden Therapy Workshop.

Volunteers from the Amateur Gardeners’ Club of Milton were on hand to help the seniors make Valentine’s Day-themed floral bouquets to take home. Lunch was also served and the Jazz Quartet performed after the flower arrangements were completed.

Council on Aging Director Mary Ann Sullivan said the event started eight years ago when the Amateur Gardeners’ Club was brainstorming ideas for an event at the Senior Center. The doldrums of winter and the Valentine’s Day season seemed like a perfect time to bring a large group of Milton women together.

“It takes [the seniors] back to a happier time in their lives,” Sullivan said, adding that many of the attendees are widows.

“They put their heart and soul into it,” said Sullivan of the Amateur Gardeners’ Club of Milton.

“It’s just a winning program for all of us,” Sullivan said.
