The Fontbonne Academy commencement ceremony is scheduled for Thursday evening.
Eight Milton residents will receive their diplomas from Fontbonne Academy in Milton on Thursday, May 23. The following Milton residents are part of Fontbonne Academy's Class of 2013: Emma Byrne, Christine Carroll, Jennifer Gemma, Lauren Kinsella, Ye Lim Lee, Sungji Park, Kirsten Robinson and Laura Sullivan. Milton was also well represented at the Fontbonne Academy Awards Ceremony on May 21. Christine Carroll earned the Leadership in French Honor Society award. Emma Byrne was recognized for Excellence in Jazz Choir. Kirsten Robinson earned the Leadership in Senior Peer Ministers award. The Outstanding Effort in French Literature award was given to Lauren Kinsella.

Parents and families will have a chance to learn more about cyber-bullying and safe use of social media. The event will take place at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 6.
Two weeks from today, Milton Public Schools will host a special information session on internet safety. Milton Internet Safety Specialists Lynette Owens and Patricia A. Snell will be on hand to speak at the session, which will also cover safe use of social media and cyber-bullying. The event will take place on Thursday, June 6 at 7 p.m. in the Milton High School library.

A flag raising at Town Hall, a parade down Canton Avenue and an event at Milton Cemetery will be held on Memorial Day.
American Legion Post No. 114 will lead the traditional Memorial Day observance in Milton on Monday, May 27. The keynote speaker will be Marine and Army Special Forces veteran Gregory Kelly. The events will begin at Town Hall at 9:30 a.m. with a flag raising and the placing of a wreath. The Milton High School band will perform the National Anthem on the Town Green before the participants march to Milton Cemetery. The customary ceremony at Milton Cemetery will begin around 10 a.m. Representatives from town government and Legion Post No. 114 will speak at the cemetery, followed by Kelly's address. Milton High School chorus members will provide music at the cemetery ceremony.

Outgoing lieutenant governor said recent controversies had nothing to do with decision to resign.
Massachusetts Lt. Gov. Tim Murray said none of the controversies that have dogged him during his tenure on Beacon Hill contributed to his decision to announce his resignation. In a press conference at the State House Wednesday, Murray said his final day on the job will be June 2. The next day he will take over as president and CEO of the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce where his salary will reportedly be around $200,000. In January, Murray said he had no intention of running for governor when Gov. Deval Patrick's term expires in January 2015. "This has been a very difficult but empowering decision," Murray said. "It has been an honor to serve as lieutenant governor." Patrick called Murray an "outstanding partner" during his time in …

UPDATE, 12:15 p.m.: The Massachusetts Republican Party was quick to jump on the reports about Murray's resignation, saying Murray is trying "to outrun the scandal that dogs him" in a statement on their website.
