On Wednesday, September 5 at 3:30 p.m., the Teen Services department of the Milton Public Library will host a Back to School event for junior high school students. A fter snacking on pizza and hearing a brief introduction to Teen Services, students will participate in a scavenger hunt that leads them through the library’s physical and virtual spaces. “We're very close to Pierce, so it's common to get a big junior high crowd in the Teen Space after school,” said Young Adult Librarian Emily Calkins. “This event is a fun opportunity to welcome our returning regulars, introduce new students to the library’s collections and programs, and review our expectations about library behavior.” The Back to School Scavenger Hunt is open to junior high…

Share your best advice with the Class of 2016 before they start high school.
The start of school is just a few weeks away. For a crop of Milton students at Milton High School, Fontbonne Academy, Milton Academy and many area private schools, the first day of classes means the start of a four-year journey to a diploma. As these students move up into grades defined by words like freshman and sophomore rather than numbers, they’ll be faced with new social situations, more rigorous academics and growing up in general. Think back to your days as an incoming freshman. What kind of advice do you wish you’d received? Share your advice with the Class of 2016 as they begin high school.

Do you remember your favorite lunch box? Today's kids have as many options as ever but nothing will take the place of the Partridge Family or Scooby-Doo.
Lunch boxes have changed in design and shape over the years, but the basic idea is the same. Along with space inside for a cold drink, sandwich and snack, the cover is devoted to a favorite cartoon, character, TV show or movie. That's why Justin Bieber and Darth Vader and Japanese cartoon characters are staring out at shoppers from the shelves of Target. Back in the '70s, the lunch boxes were aluminum. In the '80s, they gave way to plastic. Vintage lunch boxes now are highly collectible. They are displayed as collections in people's homes, and sometimes they get their own art gallery shows. (Yes, I've gone to one.) Do you remember a favorite lunch box? What was it? Have a picture handy? Share it with Patch!
