The inaugural meeting of the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Milton Board of Overseers was held earlier this month.
Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Milton held the inaugural meeting of its newly-formed Board of Overseers at Quincy Marriott on Wednesday, January 16, 2013. “This is an ideal time to become more involved in this organization,” said Board of Directors Chairman Michael Brady of Milton. “The hospital is very well positioned for a bright future.” Comprised of local leaders in the business, philanthropic, healthcare and scientific communities, the Board of Overseers will serve in an advisory role to the hospital’s Board of Directors and hospital leadership. Mary Harris, 78, was walking home from Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Milton when a doctor's car struck and killed her on Highland Street.
On Friday, December 7, longtime Milton resident Mary Harris was visiting her son at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Milton. That evening, as she walked back to her West Street home, the 78-year old was struck by a vehicle as it traveled down Highland Street from the hospital’s rear driveway toward Canton Avenue. Harris was pronounced dead at BID-Milton a short time later. “From all appearances, it seems to be a terrible accident,” Deputy Police Chief Charles Paris said Wednesday, adding the slight rain and dusk skies—not speed—were likely contributors. The Board of Directors of Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Milton announced Wednesday that its president, Joseph V. Morrissey, will be stepping down, effective December 31, 2012. Mr. Morrissey will be succeeded on an interim basis by Doris Sinkevich, who currently serves as BID-Milton’s Chief Operating Officer and Chief Nursing Officer. Mr. Morrissey served as Milton Hospital's vice president of financial services from 1988 until 2003, when he was named president. A twenty-year employee of the hospital, Mr. Morrissey was responsible for guiding BID-Milton through a successful affiliation with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, which was formalized in January, 2012. Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Milton recently awarded grants to four community groups to fund projects designed to promote healthy living. The grants will be made possible with funds raised from the Third Annual BID-Milton Community Health Walk and Carnival, scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at 10 a.m. at BID-Milton. Each year, BID-Milton seeks to meet the needs of the community by providing outreach programs, health education, screenings, and funding. In 2011, BID-Milton distributed grants to Braintree Public Schools, Father Bill’s & Mainspring Shelters, Milton High School, South Shore YMCA, Milton Community Food Pantry, and the Bird Street Community Center. Blood donors will be given a variety of prizes for participating in Saturday's blood drive at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Milton.
The American Red Cross and Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Milton will hold a blood drive on Saturday, June 30, from 9 to 2 p.m. The blood drive is being held in the BID-Milton’s Nangeroni Center in an effort to increase the community’s blood supply. “Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood, and every pint donated could save up to three lives,” according to Laureane Marquez from BID-Milton. Best routes to the Hospital during 350th parade here. During the parade, the entrance to Highland Street from Canton Avenue, as well as the Hospital’s Reedsdale Road entrance, will be blocked.
