Milton Deputy Police Chief says there were no problems with unauthorized drivers during the weekend driving ban.
When Governor Deval Patrick ordered all non-essential drivers get off the roads during the winter storm that dropped more than two feet of snow on the area, residents of the governor’s hometown generally listened. “Most people who were out, were out with a purpose,” said Deputy Police Chief Charles Paris of the plows and emergency vehicles that traveled on Milton roads during the 24-hour ban. The ban extended from 4 p.m. on Friday, February 8, until 4 p.m. the following day. The Deputy Chief explained that Milton Officers were busy responding to calls and that some drivers were pulled over by the Massachusetts State Police. Was your neighborhood cleared well after the weekend snowfall?
The Town of Milton received 28 inches of snow on Friday and Saturday. While snow closed down much of the town on February 8, school was still canceled on Monday, February 11. The Milton Department of Public Works was planning for Winter Storm Nemo for several days prior to the storm. According to DPW Director Joe Lynch, 84 trucks were used to plow town roads and parking lots, both during and after the snow stopped falling. What did the roads looks like in your neighborhood? The on-street parking ban in Milton will be in effect until further notice.
An on-street parking ban in Milton will continue until further notice due to the recent blizzard, according to an announcement on townofmilton.org. The ban went into effect Thursday, February 7, in advance of Winter Storm Nemo. About 28 inches of snow fell on Milton and DPW crews continue to try to dig out from the storm. Vehicles that do not comply with the ban will be towed. The Milton Police Department has been strictly enforcing the parking ban.
The National Weather Service has released unofficial snow totals from the weekend storm.
Milton was one of the snowiest towns in Norfolk County according to the National Weather Service’s spotter reports during the winter storm that hit the area on Friday and Saturday. The report indicates that Milton received 28 inches of snow. Only Foxboro, which got 29 inches, ranked higher on the list of the 18 Norfolk County towns. Third on the list, with 26 inches of snow, were Weymouth, Randolph, Brookline and Wrentham. Nearby Braintree received 24.1 inches of snow, while 21.5 inches fell in Hingham. The lowest ranking snow total in Norfolk County was in Sharon. Sharon received 15 inches.
While the storm ended Saturday afternoon, cleanout efforts continue.
The volume of snow from Winter Storm Nemo, 28 inches according to the National Weather Service, will take a while to dig out from. The amount of snow was enough to cancel school on Monday. Residents and town employees were out during and after the storm, clearing snow from parking lots, roads and driveways.

With rain in Milton's forecast for Monday, the Blizzard of '13 may not be finished wreaking havoc in Massachusetts. While temperatures dropped overnight on Friday resulting in light, fluffy snow, the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) warns that fluffy snow piled high on roofs can act as a sponge, absorbing rain and adding additional stress to structures. Relatively flat roofs are particularly vulnerable, MEMA says. In other cases, roof ice dams have formed causing water build-up, leading to interior damage. These conditions can accelerate the snowmelt. Do you agree with the governor's decision or was it too drastic?
All non-emergency drivers were ordered off the roads on Friday when Gov. Deval Patrick issued an executive order banning travel during the blizzard. (Editor's note: The ban is lifted statewide as of 4 p.m. Saturday.) Patrick's executive order is being praised by some and bashed by others, reported The Boston Globe. While former Massachusetts Gov. Michael Dukakis, who was in charge of the commonwealth during the Blizzard of ’78, praised the governor’s move, others called the order “tyrannical” and say the strict ban and hefty fines were too much, according to The Globe. Sunday's Lincoln Day at the Forbes House Museum has been postponed due to the winter weather.
Forbes House Museum announces that its 2013 Lincoln Day will be postponed due to the recent snow storm. Instead of holding the annual event tomorrow, February 10, Lincoln Day will take place on Sunday, March 3, from 1 to 4 p.m. "We want to have plenty of guests at Lincoln Day, and know that the storm will inhibit many folks from attending," says FHM Director, Robin Tagliaferri. "We also want everyone to be safe. Our re-enactor groups and program presenters are happy to accommodate the change of date, so we look forward to having everyone at Forbes House on 3 March." Where I work I'm considered "Emergency personnel" I drove my wife's all wheel drive to work Saturday morning at 4 am during a white out. Driving in Milton was a breeze.
