What's Open (or Not) on Columbus Day

A rundown of what's open or closed on Columbus Day.

The United States recognizes Columbus Day the second Monday of October each year to celebrate the accomplishments of Christopher Columbus. Here's a rundown of what's open and closed on Monday, October 8, 2012: All municipal, state and federal offices and facilities will be closed. This includes schools, Milton Town Hall, the Milton Public Library, the Milton Council on Aging and all post offices.  All MBTA buses and trains will running on a reduced weekend/holiday schedule.  Liquor stores: Open at the owner's discretion. Retail and convenience stores: Open at the owner's discretion.  Restaurants and bars: Most will be open, but call ahead. It's up to the owner.

Trash Collection Delayed for Columbus Day

Regular trash collection will be moved back one day on the week of October 8.

The Town of Milton will have a one-day delay in trash collection, beginning on Monday, October 8, due to Columbus Day. The observance of the Columbus Day holiday is Monday for most municipal buildings and services, including trash collection. Regular service will be moved back one day, so Monday collection will be Tuesday, Tuesday collection will be Wednesday and so on.
