Selectmen Oppose Proposed Flight Path Over Milton

The Milton Board of Selectmen has released a letter opposing a new FAA proposed flight path over Milton.

The Milton Board of Selectmen have sent a letter opposing the proposed Runway 33L that would add a third flight path from Boston Logan International Airport over the Town of Milton, to the project manager. The proposal from the Federal Aviation Administration is currently under review after the public input period was extended. The Selectmen's letter asks for "further study, clarification and explanation." The letter, signed by each of Milton's three Selectmen, was sent to Terry English, project manager from the FAA. The Selectmen sought insight from Milton resident statistician Cindy L. Christiansen, Ph.D. on the issue. Christiansen expressed concern over the science and presentation of data in the proposal. "The concern over faulty data…

A group of Milton residents opposing the Logan Airport flight path from Runway 33L over Milton, recently presented over 500 signatures on a change.org petition to the Board of Selectmen. To sign the petition and read comments from Milton residents, go change.org. An email address is needed to sign the petition. One cannot equal the metric used by the FAA to quantify the noise burden (DNL) with the day-to-day disturbances residents suffer from these flight paths. DNL as a measure of noise is misleading - it is an average of an average of an average. Also, there is evidence from information provided in the report, by the FAA, by Massport, and by the data that that the FAA gave me that the analysis is …   more ›

Input Period Extended for New FAA Flight Plan Over Milton

Residents now have until March 15 to weigh in on a revised departure route from Boston that would affect Canton, Milton and Randolph.

Sen. Brian Joyce (D-Milton) announced on Monday that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is allowing more time for the public to weigh in on a new flight plan that would affect residents in Canton, Milton and Randolph.  The comment period has been extended by 30 days, according to Monday's announcement, and will allow residents to provide feedback on a revised departure route from Logan International Airport in Boston over the areas of Canton, Milton and Randolph. (The proposed changes to the departure routes can be viewed in a PDF file attached to this article; more information can be found at bostonrnavea.com.) I still don't see the issue for Milton. If anything, it looks like it reduces the overall amount of flights directly departing above the town an concentrates it on the Milton/Dedham/Canton line, rather than over the more populous side of town. Remember, these are planes taking off so they are at a much higher altitude than the ones landing on runways 4L or 4R, which are the loud planes flying …   more ›

FAA Proposes New Airplane Route Over Milton

The public comment period for the proposed departure route closes February 15.

A new airline departure route from Boston Logan International Airport that would fly directly over the Town of Milton could go into service as early as March 7. The route, which was proposed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), would be for departing aircrafts from Runway 33. The public comment period for the proposal closes on February 15. According to a letter from Judy Kennedy, Town of Milton Massport Liaison, the new route adds unneeded traffic over Milton. “Milton is already heavily affected by two other airplane runway flight paths - Runway 4 arrivals and Runway 27 departures - and therefore Milton does not need to have an additional flight path added from airplane departures on Runway 33,” reads the letter posted on …
