Milton Meals on Wheels: Warm Plates and Warm Hearts
The devoted volunteers of the Milton Meals on Wheels program embrace the spirit of giving all year round and pay special attention to their recipients around the holidays.
The Milton Meals on Wheels program operates year-round out of the Unquity House at 30 Curtis Road, just as it has for the past three decades. But during the holiday season the twenty volunteers, most of whom are Milton residents, go above and beyond to show their clients they care. "During Thanksgiving, the meals are delivered with an African violet and during Christmas, a poinsettia", says Ryann Bonilla, the nutritional director of South Shore Elder Services, the organization that runs the Milton Meals on Wheels site. The Braintree-based organization works in conjunction with Weymouth Colonial Nursing Home, Quincy Hospital and Milton Hospital to deliver approximately 1,200 meals daily on the South Shore.
